Puglia in southern Italy is one of the country's most productive wine-growing regions. From the spur of the boot near Foggia to the tip of the heel behind Lecce, Puglia stretches over 400 kilometers. The region has the most grape varieties in southern Italy, around 80 percent of them red. A Mediterranean climate and calcareous subsoils with layers rich in iron oxide above them create perfect conditions for growing grapes.
