Product details
The Rings brothers first vinified the Riesling Kreid in 2018 as a tribute to their father. It comes from a prime piece of the Saumagen vineyard, the old plot "Kreidkeller." The over 30-year-old vines grow on white limestone with iron-rich red soil underneath, right by the forest, creating a cool microclimate. This Riesling is puristic and bone-dry, just as their father liked it. It is a great, complex, and concentrated wine that needs some time or should be decanted: strong structure, firm palate, delicate creaminess (aged on full lees), slightly smoky, hints of white peach and yellow stone fruit, white pepper, and black currants, with herbal, citrus-mineral notes and a cool, maritime character. You can truly feel the terroir on your palate. It is a very small production with very limited availability. Robert Parker / The Wine Advocate / Stephan Reinhardt: "The 2019 Riesling Trocken Kreid is very fine and complex with a perfectly ripe and elegant nose. On the palate, it is a round, mouth-filling, silky-textured yet nervy, chalky, and highly refined dry Riesling with great intensity, balance, and remarkable distinction. The finish is crystalline, incredibly refined and salty, full of tension and weightlessness. This is a spectacular and promising wine. It has only been produced for the second time after the inaugural vintage in 2018.".
