Product details
The great success of the classic variant prompted the Oliva family to create a dark series featuring a Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper. The name pays homage to Melanio Oliva, the grandfather of Gilberto Oliva, who is regarded as the family patriarch today. He began cultivating tobacco in Cuba as early as 1886, and his son Hipolito followed him for several decades.
The father of the current generation of Olivas, Gilberto Senior, who still represents the gray eminence at tobacco fairs in the USA, faced the challenging task of finding similarly suitable growing conditions after the exodus from Cuba. After several years of searching in places like Panama, the Philippines, Honduras, and Mexico, he finally discovered perfectly suitable soils in Nicaragua that met his standards.
Earthy tones and high complexity delight the aficionado towards the end of the cigars, leaving them wanting more.
