Maius is located in the Priorat, one of the highest quality wine regions in Spain. The winemakers face challenging conditions. The dryness and intense summer sun, the cold winters, and the steep slopes with their barren, rocky slate terraces (Llicorella soils) make viticulture particularly difficult. Yet, particularly dense, complex, and age-worthy wines are produced, primarily from the resilient grape varieties Garnacha and Cariñena. With the new winery, which perfectly integrates into the landscape, the Gómez family has realized their dream of a state-of-the-art cellar. The sustainable winery is in perfect harmony with the land. The underground structure maintains an optimal temperature, the building is powered by solar energy, and rainwater is collected for dry periods. The expressive terroir wines from Maius, with their soft tannins and finesse, delight wine lovers around the world.
