GVS Schachenmann Margrittli

An elegant garnet red wine with violet reflections, balanced, fruity and full-bodied. Its bouquet is quite powerful and intense, dominated by strawberry, raspberry, plum and dried fruit, with some spice of pepper and vanilla. The palate is fresh, with nice tannins and a harmonious structure. To the fruit aromas here come fine toasted notes of biscuit and toast, the finish is medium long. As an accompaniment to veal and other white meat dishes, it is equally suitable as an aperitif meat platter, steamed vegetables, mushroom dishes, rösti and risotto, as well as hard cheeses such as Sbrinz or Parmesan. The Schaffhausen wine dynasty Schachenmann produces nationally and internationally excellent wines in the former GVS winery, founded in 1934, from the grapes that 160 vineyards in the Blauburgunderland nurture for them. For economic reasons, the wineries GVS Weinkellerei and Schachenmann came together in 1998 and combined their strengths. Since then, the winery has been operating as GVS Schachenmann, delighting wine connoisseurs with traditional wines and innovative ideas. In vinification, the winery uses the variety of technical possibilities in such a way that the qualities of the grapes and the soil in which they grow are fully appreciated. With deep, clayey soils, Schaffhausen's Klettgau region, centered on Hallau, accounts for the majority of the canton's cultivated area. The shallow, calcareous Oberklettgau with the Eisenhalde Siblingen, a foothill of the Swabian Alb, is recognized as the best Schaffhausen vineyard and covers 40 hectares. The remaining 500 hectares are shared by Reiat, Stein am Rhein and Rüdlingen/Buchberg. In Schaffhausen, as almost everywhere in German-speaking Switzerland, Pinot Noir and Riesling Sylvaner dominate.
