The 60 hectares of vines are owned by Federico Zileri, who, with the support of oenologist Alessandro Dondi, vinifies the excellent wines of Castello di Bolgheri. The vineyard is located in close proximity to the castle and borders the parcels of Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, San Guido (Sassicaia), and Guado al Tasso. Only in the best years are the wines of Castello di Bolgheri bottled. The vintages of 2002, 2003, and 2014 were deemed not good enough for Castello di Bolgheri and were omitted in the pursuit of consistent quality. Regularly, the top wines are rated highly by international wine committees. The Varvàra 2018 was awarded the prestigious Tre Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso, and the Castello di Bolgheri 2017 received an impressive 96 points from James Suckling.
