Product details
This wine is named after the mighty African Fish Eagle – a rare and magnificent bird with a distinctive raven-black color and a striking white "V" on its back, which is a common sight in the skies over Alvi's Drift. Soaring high above all other birds, it is the undisputed king of the sky.
Like the eagle, this wine is crafted without compromise to showcase the best of what makes Alvi's Drift and South Africa unique and exceptional. The wine is made entirely from grapes grown on the estate. All grapes are hand-selected in the early morning hours to ensure that only cool, perfect fruit enters the winery. The grapes are crushed and placed in traditional open fermenters that date back to the founding of the winery. The must is separated from the skins to enhance the color and overall phenolic content of the wine. After fermentation, the wine matures for 22 months in new French and American oak barrels.
This masterful wine is produced in small quantities. It has an intense color, with robust tannins and juiciness. Its aroma evokes sweet Morello cherries, complemented by complex notes of pencil shavings, nuts, and vanilla. Blended from individually selected barrels, it will reach its full potential in about ten years.
