How is it possible that this device should be 10 x bigger than Omron's other wrist devices? How is it possible that this device is heavier than the packaging weight? There must be a mistake.

It can also be used without the app. The app primarily allows you to collect the data so that you automatically get a time series. This is good at the moment, the new app forces you to have an account and to share data with the manufacturer, so it is better to use it without the app.
