Quite simply and yet brilliantly: The incoming water activates sodium bicarbonate and tartaric acid. These react to form carbonic acid, which starts the bubbling propulsion. Bet that even the biggest bath hater will be thrilled by this trick? Fill the bathtub with water at an age-appropriate temperature. Open the bubble boat at the marked line, position the fin upright, and briefly submerge the boat completely underwater before letting it float on the surface. The incoming water will activate the bubbling propulsion, and the boat will leisurely set sail.
