10. Revell B-17G Flying Fortress

The B-17 Flying Fortress is the most famous American bomber of World War II. Heavy losses in 1943, during which a total of 120 bombers were shot down, led to the realization that the earlier B-17 versions did not have enough defensive armament on board. Consequently, the B-17G was equipped with a rotating turret at the front under the nose, featuring two 12.7 mm machine guns to better defend against notorious frontal attacks. At the same time, additional gun positions were added to the sides of the fuselage. The crew could now defend themselves from all directions, providing a reassuring feeling that is reflected in the nickname Flying Fortress. Although primarily deployed over Europe and the Middle East, it also provided invaluable service in the Pacific theater for sea patrols, reconnaissance flights, and bombing missions. A total of 12,731 Flying Fortresses were put into service, with 8,680 of the G version alone. The last B-17G left the production line on July 29, 1945. The B-17G-35-VE 42-97880 Little Miss Mischief was delivered on March 23, 1944, and served in the 91st Bomb Group, 324th Bomb Squadron in Bassingbourn, England, from June 15, 1944, to April 4, 1945, completing 75 missions.
