In 1901, the novel "Buddenbrooks" was released, establishing his worldwide fame, followed by numerous novellas, stories, and in 1924, his second major novel "The Magic Mountain." In 1929, Thomas Mann was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The political turmoil and Adolf Hitler's rise to power in Germany forced Thomas Mann, his wife Katia, and their five children into exile in 1933, first to Switzerland and later to the United States. During World War II, Thomas Mann published political writings and radio addresses to the German population. In 1953, the Mann family returned to Switzerland. Thomas Mann passed away in Zurich on August 12, 1955. To this day, Mann's novels and stories are read by audiences of all generations. This Playmobil special figure honors the great writer on his 150th birthday in 2025 and is a joint project of S. Fischer and the Buddenbrook House.
