The name of the rose

In the year of our Lord 1327, during the last week of November, in a wealthy Benedictine abbey on the slopes of the Apennines. Brother William of Baskerville, a learned Franciscan from England, arrives as a special envoy of the Emperor on a delicate mission: he is to organize a highly political meeting between the heretical-suspected Franciscans and representatives of the Pope. However, his stay at the abbey soon proves to be an apocalyptic time of terror. William and his assistant Adson witness the most extraordinary and deeply unsettling events and deaths for an abbey. William becomes consumed by the fever of investigation: far more than the conflict between the Emperor and the Pope, he is interested in uncovering the murderer and delves deeper into the secrets of the abbey. And he must hurry: his fiercest adversary, Bernardo Gui, a ruthless witch and heretic hunter, believes the devil is at work behind the incidents and has quickly found his scapegoats.
