Tamiya X and XF acrylic paints are made from water-soluble acrylic resins and are excellent for brush painting or use with airbrush spray equipment. These paints can be applied to styrene resins, polystyrene, wood, and all common model plastics. For better adhesion, it is recommended to prime the respective material beforehand. The paint offers good coverage, flows smoothly, and is easy to mix. Before curing, the paint can be washed away with regular water.

Colors marked with "X" have a glossy finish, while those labeled "XF" are matte. For use with airbrush spray equipment, the X/XF paints should be thinned with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner depending on the nozzle used (0.25 – 0.50 mm). The X/XF paints can also be thinned with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, which allows for faster drying results and a harder surface finish. By adding Tamiya Paint Retarder, you can achieve a smoother paint surface after drying (max mixing ratio 1:10).
