Product details
In 1977, Lotus introduced the Type 78, a revolutionary ground effect car featuring a sleek monocoque chassis. A key design feature was the wide side boxes, shaped internally like inverted airplane wings. During the 1978 season, the further developed Type 79 was launched. The fuel tanks were positioned behind the cockpit, and the rear suspension featured effective internal dampers.
The drivers for 1978 were Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson. Success came quickly: Andretti secured 5 victories, winning the Drivers' Championship. Peterson added another win, helping the team clinch the Constructors' title. The Type 79 had a significant impact on later F1 cars, and its overwhelming speed, graceful design, and black paint earned it the nickname "Black Beauty."
The 1:20 scale kit accurately replicates the monocoque chassis, suspension, and engine of the Lotus Type 79. The front and rear bodywork can be removed after assembly to view the engine and cockpit area.
