Product details
The Grumman F-14A Tomcat of the United States Navy continues to capture significant public interest since its retirement in 2006. The first flight of the F-14 took place in December 1970, with production starting in 1974 and ending in 1992. Powered by two TF30 engines, it achieved a maximum speed of approximately Mach 2.3 with afterburner thrust. Its complex operation required a second crew member, the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) in the cockpit, which is why it was designed as a two-seater.
Perhaps the most striking feature is the variable-sweep wings, which can be swept from 20° to 75° (20° for takeoff and landing, 55° for various missions, 68° for supersonic flight, and 75° for parking). The variable-sweep wings allowed for situational speed adjustments from landing to maximum speed. The integration and deployment of various weapon systems made the F-14 a versatile carrier system and a successful interceptor.
