The model is a replica of a Soviet reconnaissance squad during World War II. In 1941, the Soviet reconnaissance troops were well-equipped but lacked combat experience and often failed to obtain crucial information in a timely manner. This led to several surprise attacks by the Germans with serious consequences. By 1942, however, the Soviet reconnaissance troops became more competent, and the number of unpleasant surprises for the Soviet command dramatically decreased. A year later, the reconnaissance troops reached the peak of their efficiency. By this time, the Germans had almost no chance of surprising the Soviet forces.
