Product details

Art. No.: 300031215
Product Name: 1:700 Japanese Shinano Aircraft Carrier Waterline

In October 1944, the Shinano was launched, one of the largest aircraft carriers of World War II. The construction of the massive Yamato-class ship began shortly after Japan's defeat at Midway and was completed in November 1944. The total length of the Shinano was 266 meters, with a displacement of 62,000 tons. It inherited strong armor from the Yamato, as well as a reinforced flight deck capable of withstanding a direct explosion from a 500 kg bomb. On its way to the outfitting pier, the Shinano was discovered and torpedoed by an American submarine before its first deployment, and shortly thereafter, it capsized off the shores of Shionomisaki. To this day, the Shinano remains the largest warship sunk by a submarine.
