Product details
From summer 1943, a total of 91 submarines of the type VII C/41 were commissioned. By this time, the operational conditions had changed completely. The pack tactics rarely led to successful detection of ship convoys, and specialized anti-submarine aircraft were now patrolling extensively. To better defend against air attacks while surfaced, the type VII C/41 submarines received a conning tower that was significantly enlarged into a "large winter garden." This is accurately represented in the model with two 20 mm twin anti-aircraft guns and a 37 mm M42U anti-aircraft cannon. A retractable snorkel mast for fresh and exhaust air management, designed to be movable in the model, and four watertight pressure vessels with 5-man life rafts were additional features of these submarines. Thanks to improved steel construction, the boats could now dive to depths of up to 250 meters. New components are included to depict the wooden deck with engraved pressure vessels and the Atlantic bow. The highly detailed hull representation with rivets and weld seams is also noteworthy. The following submarines can be represented with the decals: U 292, U 318, U 998, U 1004.
