It is a universally acknowledged truth that a bachelor in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. This simple truth seems to be confirmed when two wealthy bachelors arrive in Meryton, much to the delight of the local society and all the unmarried women. The Bennet family, blessed with five daughters, has high hopes that one of their daughters will win the heart of one of the gentlemen. Initially, Mr. Bingley seems to support these hopes, but Mr. Darcy appears to be an aloof and arrogant gentleman, particularly dismissing Elizabeth, the second eldest daughter. Strengthened by his behavior and some unpleasant things she hears about him, she rejects him. However, their paths keep crossing, and not everything is as it seems.
