1960 in the south of France: From a young age, the children in the small village of Longeverne learn to deeply hate their neighbors from Velran. No one can really remember the reason; it has simply been this way for generations. As soon as school is out, the children from both villages engage in a war fought with cunning and trickery. Whenever one of the opponents is captured, they symbolically tear off a button from their pants as an act of humiliation.
