The single-engine aircraft for ground attacks, AMX "Ghibli," is the result of collaboration between the Italian and Brazilian aerospace industries. The project was initiated in the 1980s to replace the outdated Fiat G-91Y fighter-bombers in the Italian Air Force's flight departments. This need coincided with the Brazilian Air Force's requirement to replace the MB-326. The AMX features an aerodynamic layout characterized by a high-swept wing configuration and can reach a maximum speed of 1,000 km/h thanks to its Rolls-Royce Spey 807 engine. In its Italian version, it is equipped with an M61 Vulcan 20 mm cannon and can carry 3,800 kg of attack ordnance. The Ghibli has also been utilized in various operational areas for reconnaissance missions and to provide close tactical support to ground troops.
