The Volvo 760 was the first model of the 700 series, launched in 1982. Initially available only as a sedan, it was characterized by its clear, angular shape, vertical rear window, and high-quality craftsmanship. The design was clearly inspired by contemporary American cars such as the Chevrolet Caprice and Cadillac Seville. Two engine options were available from the start: a 156 hp six-cylinder gasoline injection engine and a six-cylinder turbo diesel with a displacement of 2.4 liters and 109 hp. In 1983, a turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with 182 hp was added. An even greater success for Volvo was the boxy station wagon version, which was introduced in 1985.
