Forty-five international race car drivers compete against Steve McQueen in this daring, nerve-wracking adaptation of the world's toughest car race - Le Mans. American driver Delaney returns to France a year after his car accident to compete in the race again. There, he meets the widow who lost her husband in the accident a year earlier and falls in love with her.

The film, shot in France, captivates with its impressive cinematography and offers a dazzling view of the most extraordinary cars in the world and the unique personalities drawn to such a race. Steve McQueen, himself a successful race car driver, performed most of his scenes on the challenging 8.5-mile track in Le Mans - often exceeding speeds of 200 miles per hour.
