The family of the farmer boy Trenk Tausendschlag serves the merciless knight and lord Wertolt. When one day his father is unjustly thrown into the dungeon, Trenk sets out to become a knight. With the help of his friends Ferkelchen, Momme Mumm, Thekla, and Knight Hans, he embarks on a journey to participate in the prince's knight tournament. The winner of the tournament will lead the prince's army against the dragon dwelling in the forest. Thus, Trenk must not only win the tournament but also defeat the dragon, for then he will have one wish free, with which Trenk aims to secure the freedom of his father and his family.
