Product details
Fred Wilson (Charles Grodin), an employee of a large American oil company, is tasked with finding new oil sources. He embarks on a journey to an uninhabited island in the South Pacific aboard a chartered boat. Also on board is a stowaway: paleontologist Jack Prescott (Jeff Bridges), who has sneaked onto the ship because he wants to study a rare species of monkey on this island. Along the way, the expedition rescues a shipwrecked woman, Dawn (Jessica Lange), who is drifting at sea in a lifeboat, after a violent storm. However, when the ship anchors off the island, it turns out that the island is not as uninhabited as everyone assumed. The native inhabitants perform a strange ritual to worship a giant ape named "Kong." When they spot the blonde Dawn, they believe they have found their sacrificial offering.
John Guillermin reimagined the classic film "King Kong and the White Woman" in 1976, starring Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange. At the 1977 Academy Awards, Carlo Rimbaldi, Glen Robinson, and Frank Van der Veer received a Special Achievement Award for the film's special effects. The film also received nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Sound. Jessica Lange was honored as Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes that same year.
