The Opel Blitz was the most important German truck during World War II. It was used in large numbers on all fronts and is rightly considered the true "beast of burden" of the Wehrmacht. The chassis, with its robust suspension featuring solid axles and leaf springs, along with the rear axle equipped with twin wheels, could carry a payload of over 3 tons. The easily maintainable Opel engine with a displacement of 3,600 cc delivered a power output of 75 hp. The most common version was the 4x2 configuration with rear-wheel drive. However, there was also a 4x4 version that was deployed in both the Russian steppes and the African deserts. The Opel Blitz was produced in several thousand units due to its versatility and large rear cargo space, and it was used for tasks beyond mere transport, such as a mobile command post equipped with radio systems for transmitting orders and coordinating troops on the battlefield.
