Product details
A pit latrine typically consists of three main parts: a pit in the ground, a slab or floor with a small opening, and a cabin. The pit is usually at least 3 metres deep and at least 1 metre wide. The World Health Organisation recommends that a pit latrine be constructed at a reasonable distance from the dwelling, striking a balance between easy accessibility and odour nuisance, while keeping groundwater and surface water as far away as possible to reduce the risk of contamination. The ground opening should not exceed a diameter of 25 centimetres, as there is a risk of children falling in.
