The Benz Patent-Motorwagen was the world's first automobile with an internal combustion engine. It was built by Carl Benz in 1885, and on November 2, 1886, he received patent number 37435. The vehicle featured a gasoline engine, electric ignition, carburetor, cooling system, transmission, and brakes. The chassis was made of steel tubes, and the rear wheels were mounted on a rigid axle with elliptical springs. The decision to equip the car with three wheels was due to the specifics of the steering; the steering handle was located in the center of the vehicle. In August 1888, the inventor's wife, Bertha, along with their sons, took the first trip with the Benz automobile over a distance of about 104 km. This journey received significant attention and successfully promoted the car.
