When the new Renault small car is unveiled at the Paris Motor Show at the end of 1961, it marks a small revolution. The brand's designer reveals a new concept: a completely new approach to the automobile. The entire Renault 4 is revolutionary for its segment. It features an economical four-cylinder engine with a closed, maintenance-free cooling system, front-wheel drive (a first for Renault in passenger cars), a platform chassis to which the body is bolted, and four wheels with independent suspension.
