Product details
The Heller model represents the "HMS Victory" of the English Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, a first-rate three-deck ship that participated in the Battle of Trafalgar and was the fifth ship of the Royal Navy to bear this name. The ship was officially named Victory on October 28, 1760. In 1777, Britain was at war, and on May 8, 1778, the ship finally sailed as the flagship under Admiral Lord Keppel to the first naval battle against the French fleet off Ushant. In dry dock, the Victory was rearmed, and when it was relaunched in April 1803, its appearance had changed significantly. Most of the gold embellishments had been altered or removed. When the Victory set sail again, it had the appearance that is so admired today. In 1825, the ship became the command base of the Chief Admiral in Portsmouth and held this honor until 1869, when the ship was restored 32 years later, in 1901. In 1921, the Nautical Research Society, chaired by Lord Milford Haven, organized a campaign for the preservation of the Victory, and on January 12, 1922, it received a berth in the world's oldest dry dock, Dock No. 2 in the port of Portsmouth. The Victory can still be admired today in this dock in remarkable condition.
