The Type 95 Ha-Go was a Japanese light tank designed to support infantry troops and was first deployed in China in 1937, at the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War. There, it proved to be absolutely suitable against the poorly equipped Chinese troops. The Type 95 had to prove itself for the first time in the Japanese-Soviet border conflict of 1939, where it proved to be inferior to the Soviet BT-5 and BT-7 tanks thanks to their more powerful armament. Nevertheless, the manufacturer Mitsubishi went into mass production in 1938, and the Type 95 was used very successfully against American and British units in the Pacific region during the first phase of the Second World War. Thanks to its low weight of 7.4 tonnes and its robustness, it was able to advance into terrain that the enemy could not adequately defend. The Type 95 Ha-Go underwent various modifications and an increase in combat effectiveness, but by 1944 at the latest it was completely outdated and clearly inferior to the mass-produced enemy tanks and anti-tank defences of the time.
