Cobi Liberator

The B-24 from Consolidated Aircraft was a four-engine heavy bomber and, with over 18,000 aircraft, the most built aircraft in the USA during World War II. Alongside the Boeing B-17 'Flying Fortress', the B-24 was the USAAF's most important horizontal bomber. In addition to its main function as a bomber, the Liberator was also used very successfully for maritime surveillance and in the fight against submarines. The first wartime deployment of the B-24 took place in January 1942 during the attack on Sulawesi (formerly Celebes, Indonesia), the first deployment of version D in February 1943 in New Guinea. The Liberator was instrumental in closing the so-called Black Pit (practically aircraft-free zone over the Atlantic) and putting the German submarine fleet under massive pressure.
