Product details
The Avro 683 Lancaster, commonly known as the Lanc, was a British heavy bomber produced from 1941 to 1946. This four-engine propeller aircraft was developed by A.V. Roe & Company (Avro), which manufactured more than half of all units. With over 7,300 aircraft built, the Lancaster was the most produced of all four-engine British aircraft types during World War II. It was particularly used for night operations against German cities and for special missions against dams and railway viaducts, completing over 156,000 sorties by the end of the war. The Lanc was the primary strategic bomber of the RAF Bomber Command and could carry up to 6.3 tons of bombs or, in the B Mk I Special variant, with a modified bay, enhanced engines, and more powerful propellers, a 10-ton bomb known as the Grand Slam. The Grand Slam remains the heaviest aerial bomb used in warfare and was deployed against heavily fortified large structures, such as U-boat bunkers, and against bridges. Since the Lancaster had no downward-facing armament, it was often attacked by German night fighters from below with upward-angled machine gun fire, referred to as "schräge Musik." This model consists of 1,643 pieces, includes 1 minifigure, printed blocks, and movable elements.
