Cobi Kubus

The Kubus was an improvised armored vehicle manufactured without a blueprint in a car workshop in Warsaw. A week after the start of the so-called Warsaw Uprising on September 1, 1944, a revolt by the Polish Home Army against the German Wehrmacht, a group of men led by chief designer Walerian Bielecki set out to create an armored vehicle to support the Armia Krajowa. A heavily armored superstructure with viewing slits and a Soviet 7.62 mm machine gun as armament was mounted on the chassis of a pre-war Polish Chevrolet truck. This superstructure had virtually no vertical surfaces for additional protection. The vehicle could transport 8-12 soldiers as an armored personnel carrier. From the idea to completion and delivery to the troops, only 13 days passed, highlighting its significance as a symbol of the unwavering resistance of the Polish population against the occupying forces.
