Product details
The Horten Ho 229 was the prototype of a flying wing designed by brothers Reimar and Walter Horten towards the end of World War II, intended to carry the flying wing concept into the new jet era. As the originally planned BMW jet engines were not available, they resorted to the already tested Junkers Jumo 004 engines, which required significant modifications to the central structure. The Junkers Jumo 004 was the world's first production-ready jet engine. The official maiden flight of the prototype, with Erwin Ziller as the pilot, took place on February 2, 1945, and was largely satisfactory. However, during the last test flight, an engine failure occurred, leading to the crash of the aircraft, resulting in Ziller's fatal injuries. Despite this incident, 40 units were ordered. However, they were never produced, as US troops reached the manufacturing site in Friedrichroda about two months later, on April 14, 1945. Model with 953 pieces, 1 minifigure, printed blocks, and simple building instructions. Model dimensions (LxWxH): 23.5 x 52.5 x 10 cm.
