The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a single-engine, four-seat high-wing aircraft manufactured by the American Cessna Aircraft Company and is the most produced aircraft type in the world. This robust light metal aircraft, produced since 1956, has excellent flying characteristics and is therefore commonly used as a training aircraft for pilot education. Its relatively low operating and maintenance costs also contribute to its worldwide popularity. The Skyhawk has proven itself in various special missions such as search and rescue flights, aerial photography, and surveillance flights over pipelines and power lines, and can even be converted for use as a seaplane. In 1958/59, pilots Robert Timm and John Cook set the still-standing world record for endurance flight with a Cessna 172.
