The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a single-engine, four-seater high-wing aircraft manufactured by the US Cessna Aircraft Company and is the most frequently built aircraft type in the world. Produced since 1956, this robust light-alloy aircraft has excellent flight characteristics and is therefore often used as a training aircraft for pilot training. Its comparatively low operating and maintenance costs also contribute to its worldwide popularity. The Skyhawk has also proven itself in various special missions such as search and rescue flights, aerial photography flights and inspection flights over pipelines and power lines and can even be used as a seaplane when suitably converted. In 1958/59, the two pilots Robert Timm and John Cook set the still valid endurance world flight record with a Cessna 172.
