Product details
In the Executive version, Cobi will build an Avro Lancaster B III in a special Dambuster version. It was designed to carry out one of the most famous operations of the Second World War - Operation Chastise. The aircraft bears clear markings of the 617th Bomb Wing. The model itself features rotating propellers, folding undercarriage and movable ailerons. The Cockpit has a replica interior in which crew figures can be placed. Underneath the aircraft, Cobi will attach the famous "dive bomb" designed to destroy large targets such as dams and submarine shelters. It was used on 17 May 1943 by the 617th Bomb Squadron "Dam Busters" (Operation Chastise) to destroy the German dams Möhne and Eder. The set contains historical markings, a block base with the name of the aircraft and three figures representing the crew of the aircraft.
The Avro Lancaster was a heavy four-engined British bomber from the Second World War, which was manufactured at the A.V.Roe (Avro) factory and was used from 1942. Alongside the Handley Page Halifax, the Lancaster was the basic heavy bomber of the British Royal Air Force in the Second World War. The Lancaster is considered the most successful British heavy bomber. A total of 7,377 Avro Lancaster aeroplanes were produced.
In 1943, several Avro Lancaster aircraft were converted for Operation Chastise. The aim of the operation was to destroy dams in the Ruhr area in German, disrupting the water and energy supply to German industry. Operation Chastise was innovative in both technological and tactical terms. It required precise flying at low altitude and accurate bombing.
