Product details
The Panzerkampfwagen II, also known as PzKpfw II or Sd.Kfz 121, was a light tank of the German Wehrmacht at the beginning of World War II. Its development began at a time when the German Reich was prohibited from building tanks due to the stipulations of the Treaty of Versailles. Therefore, the project was given the code name Agricultural Tractor 100. By early 1934, it became apparent that the planned command vehicles (later the Panzer III) and accompanying vehicles (later the Panzer IV) would not be completed in the desired timeframe. As a result, the Army Weapons Office was tasked with designing a reinforced small tractor, essentially a revision of the Panzer I, with a more powerful engine and stronger armament. As with the Panzer I, the chassis was developed by Krupp and the superstructure by Daimler-Benz. Additionally, the companies Henschel and MAN were also involved. Aware that the Panzer II still did not meet the requirements of the new armored troops, only small series were produced, which were continuously developed. It was not until 1937, with the Ausf. A produced by MAN, that the transition from the development phase to serial production occurred. Initial combat experiences from the first two years of the war led to an enhancement of the hull front to 35 mm, the turret front to 30 mm, and the side armor to 20 mm in the Ausf. F. A periscope was also installed to protect the driver. The Panzer II was considered reliable but was only used as a combat tank at the beginning; from 1940/41 onwards, it was primarily used for reconnaissance, and its standard allocation within an armored division was continuously reduced. By 1943, it was no longer included in the standard organization. Model with 812 parts, 1 figure, printed blocks, and movable elements (LxWxH): 17.5 x 9 x 8.5 cm.
