Every two years, a notorious illegal coast-to-coast car race takes place in the USA, from Connecticut to California - the so-called Cannonball Run. Various illustrious drivers are attempting this time to survive the 3,000 km and win the coveted trophy, including adventurer J.J. McClure with his crazy assistant Victor, who are traveling in an ambulance to avoid being stopped by the police. There's also Seymour Goldfarb, who competes in true James Bond style with his Aston Martin, as well as two wacky Japanese drivers with their high-tech Subaru.
