1,000 years after catastrophic events forced humanity to leave Earth, the planet Nova Prime has become the new home for humans. When the legendary General Cypher Raige returns from a long expedition to his now completely estranged family, he tries to be a good father to his 13-year-old son Kitai. However, after an asteroid storm severely damages their spaceship, Cypher and Kitai must make an emergency landing in a dangerous, unknown place - Earth. While his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must explore the hostile terrain alone and retrieve the transmitter that is meant to save them. His greatest wish throughout his life has been to become a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.
