The model is a replica of the Semovente M40 75/18 tank. Developed by Fiat Ansaldo, the Semovente 75/18 M40 was deployed by the Regio Esercito in North Africa starting in late 1941 and was used until the end of World War II. Although it was based on the old M13/40 tank chassis, it was the only Italian armored vehicle produced in large numbers and posed a serious threat to Allied tanks. The 75mm gun had good firepower and was effective even against the most modern and heavily armored enemy tanks, such as the Sherman. However, the effective weapon could not compensate for some weaknesses, such as overly light armor and an unreliable, weak engine derived directly from the M13/40 tank. The Italian Semovente was particularly used by the Ariete and Littorio armored divisions in North Africa, but was also employed by the Repubblica Sociale in Northern Italy until the end of the war.
