Developed by Fiat Ansaldo, the "Semovente" 75/18 M40 was used by Regio Esercito in North Africa from the end of 1941 until the end of the Second World War. Although developed on the old M13 / 40 tank frame, it was the only Italian armoured vehicle produced in large numbers and posed a serious threat to Allied tanks. The 75 mm gun had good firepower and was effective even with the most modern and heavily armoured enemy tanks like the Sherman. The good and effective weapon could not compensate for some weaknesses such as too light armour and an unreliable and weak engine coming directly from the M13 / 40 tank.
