Art. Description: 1:72 Battle of Normandy St. Mère-Église

In the overall strategic plan of "Overlord," the codename for the Allied landings on the beaches of Normandy, the French village of Sainte-Mère-Église played a key role. It was marked on battle maps as an important junction that the Germans could use for rapid counterattacks towards Utah and Omaha Beach. Therefore, it was of strategic importance to occupy the village immediately and ensure its control by American airborne troops. In the early hours of June 6, 1944, paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Divisions, the two famous U.S. airborne divisions, occupied the center of the small French town after fierce fighting. The role of the American paratroopers has been depicted and celebrated in numerous films, from "The Longest Day" in the 1960s to more recent war movies.
