The Ford Escort Mk 2 was launched in 1975. The advancements compared to the Escort Mk 1, which was introduced at the Brussels Motor Show in 1968, were unmistakable. The first-class mechanics were carried over from the previous model, but a completely new design radiated the aesthetics and style of the 1970s. In addition to the practical models, a sport version of the Escort was also presented, distinguished by a more aggressive look and a distinctly sporty interior. Finally, the RS 1800 model with a twin-cam engine (115 hp) was introduced, which served as the basis for the special versions used in the World Rally Championships. The legendary Zakspeed team built and utilized a special version of the Escort Mk 2 in 1977/1978.
