The part can be offset from the tap. You'll just need to fit the right adaptor to match the outlet end of your hose.

On the inlet side there is a female thread for a common water tap (incl. adapter for smaller connections). If you have such a connection on the hose, you could place the control a little further away. However, I advise you not to do this, as the first hose must always be under pressure, otherwise the principle of the control unit will not work. However, if a hose is always under pressure, it will burst at some point (especially if the sun shines on it) and then the water will run out unstoppably. My unit is connected directly to the tap and has been fully exposed to the sun (south side) for 2 years and works perfectly.
