Product details
The Phoenix Canariensis, better known as the Canary Island Date Palm, originates from the Canary Islands. There are many different species of Phoenix, with Canariensis being the most well-known and common. Today, Phoenix Canariensis can be found in any tropical climate, but in Spain and Italy, these palms are often used as planting material along public roads or planted as ornamental plants. In a tropical climate, this palm can grow up to 18 meters tall with leaves measuring 5 to 6 meters in length. You can also plant the palms outdoors, as they are hardy.
Care
The Phoenix Canariensis prefers a sunny location (full sun is not a problem) and very well-draining soil. Water daily during a dry spring and/or warm, dry summer. Ensure that the palm is always in well-draining soil and that excess water can drain directly from the pot. It is recommended to fertilize the palm once a year with concentrated or liquid plant food. The Phoenix Canariensis is a strong burrower and can be planted in the ground or in a pot. Use a decorative pot to ensure the plant has enough space. The plant is moderately hardy and can tolerate a maximum of 5 degrees of frost.
