Product details
Musa Basjoo, also known as the hardy garden banana, is native to southern China. It is the most resilient banana plant available. The plant is winter-hardy, but in severe frost, it may die back to the trunk or even to the ground. Fortunately, the plant regrows quickly in spring. Musa Basjoo is a fantastic garden banana for outdoor spaces, but it can also be kept in a pot or on a terrace. After just three years, the tree can bloom and bear fruit. Under ideal conditions, the garden banana can reach a height of about 250 cm.
Care
The plant thrives best in a sunny location with nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. Musa Basjoo requires plenty of water during the summer months from April to September. The more water the plant receives, the faster it grows, which can be up to 180 cm per year under the right conditions. In winter, the top of the plant may die back if left unprotected, but it will return in spring and begin its growth spurt. If the plants are in pots, they can also be brought indoors during winter and continue to grow throughout the season. Pruning of Musa Basjoo is not necessary but can be done at any time.
Size
Upon delivery, the plants have a height of 55 to 70 cm (measured including the pot). The plants are supplied in pots with a diameter of 21 cm.
