Red sandpapers: A grit range of 40 to 180 is used for high material removal on wood and metal. These sandpapers have a reddish-brown color. The backing material is paper with a weight of 250 g/m². The abrasive grain is made of corundum.

White sandpapers: A grit of 220 and above is used for fine sanding and for sanding paints and fillers. These sandpapers have a white-gray color. The backing material is paper with a weight of 120 g/m². The abrasive grain is made of corundum and is coated with a zinc stearate layer to prevent premature clogging.
