Silatop offers a decorative and durable weather protection that penetrates deep into the wood, providing water repellency and moisture regulation (breathability), while showcasing the natural wood structure and grain beautifully through a clear surface. The use of lightfast, nanoscale iron oxide pigments effectively protects the wood from damage caused by UV light. Silatop is equipped with active ingredients that protect the coating against fungal infestations (e.g., blue stain, mold), algae, rot, and wood pests (e.g., house borer). The wood to be treated must be dry (not exceeding 16% moisture content), clean, and free of paint and wax. Resinous and exotic woods should first be cleaned with a cleaning thinner. Old stain coatings should be lightly sanded. Severely weathered wood parts must be sanded down to healthy wood. The color outcome depends on the absorbency and type of wood, which is why a test application is recommended.
