7. Mammut Smart HMS 2.0 Screwgate
HMS carabiner with a safety mechanism against accidental cross-loading. The further development of the popular safety carabiner impresses with an improved design, higher breaking load, and reduced weight. What remains is double safety with simple handling. The screw lock can only be operated when the safety gate is also opened. Accidental opening is just as excluded as unintentional twisting of the carabiner in the safety loop of the climbing harness. This prevents dangerous cross-loading. For the Smart 2.0 belay device, Mammut recommends using the Smart HMS 2.0 carabiner.
8. Petzl Sm' D
The Sm’D is a D-shaped, compact, and lightweight locking carabiner that can be used in many situations. It is easy to operate even while wearing gloves and is available with two locking systems.
Many applications:
- Particularly efficient due to its D-shape, regardless of the direction of use, making it ideal for various purposes: securing a safety system, a pulley, at the end of a connector, etc.
- Compact design and very low weight.
Good handling and ergonomics:

- Screw-lock: an easy-to-open system that can be locked or unlocked as needed. A red indicator is visible as long as the carabiner is not locked. This system is suitable for challenging environments where mud or ice could cause the automatic locking system to fail.
- Twist-lock: specifically designed for quick opening (e.g., at the end of a connector) and for connecting a GRIGRI to the harness.
